Dawn of War: Soulstorm Demo Material
Introduction
I scripted the following seven videos. Each recording serves as a different end-game cinematic for Dawn of War Soulstorm,
depending on which race you chose to play the campaign with. My task was to script the characters actions, set
the camera pathing and often setup the scene.
Warning: Contents below are 100% spoilers to the game!
Viewing Options
NOTE: Below I describe each different race in case you are unfamiliar with the Warhammer IP.
- Click the "Watch" option to directly view the video embedded in this website at a lower quality.
- If you left click the "Download" option, it will attempt to open a large, high quality avi file into your browser (this may not work on your machine!). You can right click this option and select "Save Target As" to save the file on your computer. Keep in mind that the files are very large. Also, it requires the DivX codec to watch these avi files.
- The "Commentary" option simply contains screenshots as I point out interesting tidbits about creating the video.
Chaos Space Marines
Race Summary:
These are the traitors of the Imperium, those that have turned to the temptations of the Blood God.
They are like controlled insanity, hence the title Chaos. Shedding blood allows their demon gods
to grow in power and they enjoy doing so, preferring melee combat. They corrupt the Imperial Guard
in the Kaurava system, eventually casting forth the Warp Storm that brings the attention of the Universe.
This race debuts in the original Dawn of War.
Eldar
Race Summary:
The Eldar are one of the oldest and most mysterious races in the known Universe. They rely heavily
on trickery and evading direct confrontation. They will appear for battle if no other option exists.
They've built hidden Webway Gates across the galaxies, allowing them to appear in an instant and
vanish when their mission is accomplished. They task themselves with suppresing the Necron. Long
before the Warpstorm battle, the Eldar fought an epic battle against the Necron, pushing them
back into their slumber. They have returned again to meet their immortal adversary.
This race debuts in the original Dawn of War.
Imperial Guard
Race Summary:
The Emperor's military. These soldiers come from every corner of the Imperium and are vast
in number. They believe strongly in duty and loyalty to the Emperor, executing soldiers
who cower to carry out an order. "Glory to the first man who dies!" However, due to their
size, they are very susceptible to corruption. The Imperial Guard were in charge of
overseeing the Kaurava system and they hope to regain control after losing it to heresy.
This race debuts in the first expansion, Winter Assault.
Necron
Race Summary:
The immortal, robot-like beings that lie dormant deep within planets. If disturbed, they will
surface to abolish all forms of life and then reenter the planet. They move slowly, but are nearly
impossible to defeat and they cannot truly be killed. They've been dealing with the Eldar far
before any other race came into existence. All the life swarming on the Kaurava system as awoken
them from their slumber (after they were beaten by the Eldar long ago) and they intend to blot
out all beings and get their revenge on the Eldar.
This race debuts in the second expansion, Dark Crusade
Orks
Race Summary:
The barbaric conquerors of space. These green aliens travel from system to system, killing to
claim their status amongst the Orkish ranks. They usually spread and multiply so fast that
no other race can maintain their rush and end up crushed. If you hear "Waaagh!" it's best to run.
Orks have always existed in the Kaurava system, sometimes managing to push imperial forces back.
However, before the Warpstorm battle, the Kauravan Orks were suppressed to their secret hiding
spot in the Rokclaw Mountains. Gorgutz, the infamous Ork warboss, arrives foreseeing a large
battle he wishes to claim and boasts the Kauravan forces to win back the system.
This race debuts in the original Dawn of War
Space Marines
Race Summary:
The honorable super-soldiers of the Emperor. These loyal humans are called to battle when
situations escalate out of check, and they are expected to regain control. They have several
different chapters that focus and excel at different things. The Blood Ravens chapter concentrates
on intelligence and studies artifacts and relics found throughout the Universe. They are also
a force to be reckoned with. They arrive in the Kaurava system to accomplish what the Imperial
Guard failed to do: controlling the Kaurva system.
This race debuts in the original Dawn of War.
Tau
Race Summary:
One of the youngest races of the cosmos. This race assimilates other races in consideration
of their philosophy, "For the Greater Good". They rely on tactical combat, typically distancing
themselves for ranged combat. They are structured into different castes to form organization.
The Earth Caste are considered their builders while the Fire Caste make up their military. The
Tau land on a moon in the Kaurava system, setting up an Ion Canon which destroys only life forms.
After setting up their entrenced base, they intend to spread out and learn more about the Warpstorm.
This race debuts in the second expansion, Dark Crusade
